If you want to retrieve the value of an environment variable, this can be done by typing %environment variable name%. In the dialog box, this is done for private directory where the USER environment variable is used to set directory names. In this way, for example, you can set the Private Directory to the person who has logged on to the machine at the moment if multiple people are using the same machine.
