The BOM Mapper template enables you to create and maintain bill of materials (BOMs) in addition to the Engineering BOM (EBOM). The most common use case is the Manufacturing BOM (MBOM).
Within a PLM system, the MBOM represents the structure and components as they exist in the manufacturing and production environment. While the EBOM captures the design intent and engineering perspective of a product, the MBOM reflects how that design is actually built, sourced, and assembled in production.
The MBOM serves as a critical bridge between engineering and manufacturing within the PLM platform. It enables organizations to:
Maintain traceability between design (EBOM) and production (MBOM)
Manage manufacturing-specific processes, phases, and workflows
Support multi-site manufacturing with site-specific variations
Link manufacturing documentation, work instructions, and quality standards to production phases
Facilitate data flow to ERP systems for production planning and execution
Support variant management for different manufacturing locations or product configurations
The BOM Mapper automates and streamlines the process of creating and updating MBOMs, ensuring that manufacturing structure remains synchronized with engineering changes throughout the product lifecycle.
